Nicklas Backstrom with the classic backwards backhand shot for first goal of the season

Nick Backstrom just scored his first goal of the season. It was your standard, everyday, no-look, backwards, backhand off a rebound.

Entering the offensive zone, Backstrom dished the puck to long-time running mate, Alex Ovechkin, and the Caps captain went to work.

Ovechkin made a gorgeous deke to avoid the Winnipeg defense — an on-a-dime stop and reverse. That’s Marko Dano getting his ankles broken for the record.

He released a wristshot that forced a left pad save from Michael Hutchinson.

Backtrom picked up the rebound and deposited it over Hutchinson’s outstretched pad.

Without looking.

That’s Nicklas’ 6th point of the season and his 3rd at even strength. It’s also his 16th goal against the Thrashers/Jets franchise, the most Nicklas has scored against a single team in the NHL over his career.
