Nicklas Backstrom tallies first point of 2017 World Championship after stunning assist on William Nylander goal

One game and already one point.

Hours after arriving in Germany for Team Sweden’s morning skate, Capitals’ first line center Nicklas Backstrom suited up in Sweden’s second to last preliminary game of the 2017 World Championship.

In the second period, Backstrom tallied his first point of the tournament, assisting on William Nylander’s second goal of the game.

It was 🔥.

The goal came on a beautiful give-and-go play.

After Nylander skates around the entire Team Denmark defense, the Leafs forward dishes to Backstrom set up near the net. Backstrom collects the pass and then immediately bunts the puck back to Nylander who shoots the puck past Denmark goaltender George Sorensen.

The goal was Nylander’s second of the game.

Sweden leads 3-0.

Through two periods of play, Backstrom, centering a line with Nylander and Oscar Lindberg, has 9:17 of ice time and three shots on goal.
