Karl Alzner spoke with Vegas Golden Knights but will test free agency

Within the Vegas Golden Knight’s 72-hour interview window, the new team spoke with many unrestricted free agents. Karl Alzner was one of those UFAs. His chat with Vegas suggests he will not be a Capital next season, but he will still enter free agency on July 1.

TSN’s Pierre LeBrun reported that Alzner spoke to Vegas by way of his agent, JP Barry.

In mid-May, Alzner spoke to Sportsnet’s Boomer and Warrener and admitted he was nervous for free agency.

“It is a little strange to think that I might be somewhere else next year, but at the same time there is a little bit of excitement to maybe look around the league and have some options,” Alzner said during his radio interview.

Alzner will enter free agency after a 13-point season (3 goals, 10 assists) in which he logged 20-plus minutes every game. He is expected to receive an upgrade on his $2.8 million-per-year contract that just expired.
