Australian TV reporter butchers Alex Ovechkin’s name on live TV

Australia is the home of kangaroos, Foster’s, and rugby. It’s also home of an ever-burgeoning audience for hockey.

Thursday, a Fox Sports News anchor did the highlights of the Caps-Penguins game. But that’s not why he’s getting attention on social media.

The reporter had an epic, but familiar fail when trying to say Alex Ovechkin’s last name.

“The Penguins staged a dramatic third-period comeback to defeat Washington in the Eastern Conference semifinals,” the reporter said. “It’s a matchup that features two of the game’s biggest names in Sidney Crosby and Alexander Ovcheh…”

He paused before trying again.

“Ovchicken,” he said.

Yeah, that’s going to be a no, but I dig how it looks on a jersey.

Next time, Australian announcer, just stick with what you know.

Just say, “It’s a matchup that features two of the game’s biggest names in Sidney Crosby and Nathan Walker.”
