Hello. Today is October 9… or is it July 1? Either way, at noon a whole bunch of contracts will expire, and a whole bunch of teams will gouge one others’ eyes out to buy the services of free-agent players.

Or at least, that’s the way it usually goes. Right now we don’t know when the next season will start or how future revenues will be impacted by the coronavirus. Also there are like a billion goalie free agents, including our beloved Braden Holtby. The only signing we think will happen will be for Holtby’s replacement, most likely Henrik Lundqvist. But anything can happen, and Brian MacLellan isn’t afraid to shake things up for his new coach.

We’ll keep track of deals in this space:

    • Lundqvist signs one-year deal with Washington worth $1.5 million.
    • Vegas has traded F Paul Statsny back to Winnipeg for D Carl Dahlstrom .
    • We’re ~30 minutes out from free agency, but here are my preferred landing spots for Holtby, ranked:
      S-tier: MIN, EDM
      A-tier: DAL
      B-tier: BOS, BUF, PIT
F-tier: CHI, NYI, NYR, WPG, NJD
    • Toronto signs F Wayne Simmonds for one year, $1.5 million.
    • D Oliver Oscar-Larsson will stay with Arizona.
    • G Malcolm Subban has signed a two-year deal with Chicago.
    • F Bobby Ryan to sign a one-year deal with Detroit.
    • D Luke Schenn and F Pat Maroon both re-upped with Tampa for near league minimum.
    • D Radko Gudas signs with Florida for a three years deal at 2.5M per.
    • F Tyler Motte re-signs with Vancouver at 1.225M AAV over two years.
    • F Carter Verhaeghe signs two year deal in Florida.
    • G Cam Talbot signs a three-year deal with Minnesota.
    • Holtby signs two-year deal with Vancouver.
    • G Matt Murray is signing a four-year deal with the Ottawa Senators.
    • G Anton Khudobin has signed a three-year extension with the Dallas Stars.
    • F Miikka Salomaki has signed a one-year deal with Colorado.
    • F Mark Jankowski has signed with Pittsburgh.
    • F Tyler Ennis is coming back to Edmonton.
    • G Keith Kinkaid has signed a two-year deal with the New York Rangers.
    • D Kevin Shattenkirk has signed a three-year deal with Anaheim.
    • D Mark Borowiecki has signed a two-year deal with Nashville.
    • Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha
    • D Matt Benning signs a two-year deal with Nashville.

Update, 3:30 PM: Things seem to be slowing down. We’re gonna shut down the open thread. If any big news breaks, we’ll cover it here. Thanks!
