Longtime former Capital, Alex Semin, has signed a one-year extension with KHL Vityaz.

The former Young Gun, now 36 and a father of two, had another solid season in Russia, scoring 18 goals and 38 points in 50 games. Semin also served as Vityaz’s captain.

It will be the longest he’s played for the same team since he spent parts of three seasons with the Carolina Hurricanes from 2012-2015.

    One more year of Sasha!

While Semin had success during the regular season, he did not play the 2020 playoffs (that were recently canceled) due to a lower-body injury he suffered in February.

Since leaving the NHL during the 2015–16 season, Semin has spent the last four years in Russia playing for Metallurg Magnitogorsk, HC Vityaz, and the VHL’s Sokol Krasnoyarsk.

In 2017, Semin also was accepted into a graduate program at Siberian Federal University in an attempt to get his master’s.
