“The Stanley Cup playoffs were supposed to begin this week,” the NHL wrote on the title screen of their latest commercial. Instead, the coronavirus pandemic forced the suspension of the NHL season meaning we’re all waiting for what is next.
In the NHL’s ad, the league’s superstar players, including Washington Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin, say just how much they miss the fans and playing the sport they love.
The commercial is set to OneRepublic’s Better Days. While the players talk, the video shows footage of fans at home playing hockey and illustrating that their love of the game still endures.
Connor McDavid: “To the fans that the miss the game, we miss playing in front of you guys.”
Alex Ovechkin: “You guys always been tremendous to us.”
Nick Foligno: “There’s nothing more that we’d love than to be on the ice in front of you.”
Sidney Crosby: “I hope to see all of you back out there.”
Marc-Andre Fleury: “Looking forward to see you guys in the stands again.”
Jonathan Toews: “We love our fans. We miss them.”
Claude Giroux: “I miss playing in front of you guys.”
Nate Schmidt: “Being with the fans, getting the goose bumps when you step on the ice…”
Drew Doughty: “Miss playing in front of you great fans”
Oliver Ekman-Larrson: “We miss you guys.”
The clip ends with this message.
We miss hockey.
We miss you.
We will be back.
