We don’t have any hockey to distract us right now, so here are some ideas from us at RMNB on how you could spend your time while in lockdown.
In today’s episode: the most relaxing cat rescue operation on the planet.
Flatbush Cats is a Brooklyn-based cat rescue. Like all big cities, New York has a big population of outdoor cats. By instituting a TNR (trap, neuter, release) program, Flatbush Cats helps control that population. And in the process, they identify the cats who actually do want to live among humans and get into what they call that VIP lifestyle. The organization’s YouTube channel posts video diaries for the cats they encounter: how they’re discovered, caught, treated, and either released if feral or fostered/adopted if friendly to humans. Each video is soundtracked by soothing lofi hip-hop and narrated in a gentle voice that I appreciate.
I’m a dog person, but I love Flatbush Cats. They face a problem that seems so overwhelming and dispiriting, and they’re just chipping away at it with care and kindness and detuned piano noodling. They are never cloying, and they are never tacky. They are just doing the hard work of being nice.
