The NHL has always limited how much individual players can express themselves during games, yet some stars still find a way.
Capitals forward TJ Oshie, for instance, writes a heartfelt tribute on every one of his game sticks. In 2016, we first reported that Oshie wrote the initials of his wife Lauren and his daughter Lyla on his sticks. Now Oshie, a father of two daughters and with a son on the way, has updated his message to include Leni’s initials and three dots for his unborn son.
The photos were shared by Jonah P. whose daughter received a game-used stick from Oshie earlier in the year. The initials are written in black marker.
There’s also another variation Oshie does where he simplifies the message and puts LLL and a single dot. This image was shared by the Altman family after Will got a stick from Oshie after he holding up a creative sign and wearing a donut plush toy on his head during warmups.
Before the Oshies became pregnant with their third child, TJ only included the initials LCO, LGO, and LRO.

Lauren, Oshie’s wife, is currently 38-weeks pregnant and has a due date in late March.
The couple first revealed they were having a third child in late August and had a gender reveal party at MedStar Capitals Iceplex in early September.
By the time the NHL starts up play again, Oshie will have another set of initials to add to his sticks.
