On Saturday morning the Capitals re-assigned defender Christian Djoos to the AHL Hershey Bears. Djoos played two games in his most recent stint, the second of which ended early due to an upper-body injury.

Djoos was called up before the new year while illness worked its way through the Caps’ locker room. He played under 18 minutes in two games, cut short by an upper-body injury sustained in Raleigh on December 28. As he was not cleared to play, Djoos could not be re-assigned to Hershey, magnifying salary cap problems for Washington. We should assume he is healthy to play for the Bears now.

ARLINGTON, Va. – The Washington Capitals have re-assigned defenseman Christian Djoos to the Hershey Bears of the American Hockey League (AHL), senior vice president and general manager Brian MacLellan announced today.

Djoos, 25, played in two games for the Capitals this season. In 25 games with Hershey, Djoos has recorded 18 points (3g, 15a) and is tied for 23rd among AHL defensemen in assists.

The 6’0”, 180-pound defenseman played in 45 games with the Capitals last season, recording 10 points (1g, 9a). In 110 career NHL games, all with the Capitals, the Gothenburg, Sweden, native has recorded 24 points (4g, 20a).

Djoos was selected by the Capitals in the seventh round, 195th overall, in the 2012 NHL Draft. He is the son of former NHL defenseman Par Djoos, who played for the Detroit Red Wings and the New York Rangers and recorded 33 points (2g, 31a) in 82 career games.
