According to a report from Radio Canada, former Washington Capitals forward and enforcer Donald Brashear was arrested on June 5, 2019 for breaking a window in a Des Chatels apartment building. While investigating the alleged breaking of a window, police discovered Brashear was in possession of cocaine.
Brashear is due to appear in a Quebec City courthouse on September 4 on charges of “mischief and possession of narcotics.”
The vandalized apartment window in question, per Radio Canada, is one that Brashear was staying at after needing to vacate his Lac-Beauport residence. This relocation occurred following Brashear needing to place his company Brash Properties 87 into bankruptcy in November 2018. Failure to appear in court in recent weeks due to civil suits brought against Brashear and his company have resulted in several default judgements.
Brashear and his company have been ordered to pay nearly $200,000 for mortgages that had not been fully repaid, according to Radio Canada’s report.
This is not Brashear’s first brush with the law. In 2000, Brashear pleaded guilty and was charged with common assault in Vancouver, for putting his hands around the neck of a man at his residence’s exercise facility. Brashear was given a conditional discharge. Then again, in 2012, Brashear was convicted for a parking lot assault after a Ligue Nord-Americaine de Hockey playoff game. He received a sentence of 18-months probation and was sued in 2014 for over $200,000 in damages by the victim.
Brashear played 1025 career NHL games for the Montreal Canadiens, Vancouver Canucks, Philadelphia Flyers, Washington Capitals, and New York Rangers. In his near 16-seasons in the NHL, Brashear racked up 2634 penalty minutes, which is the 15th most of all time.
