The San Jose Sharks have started the offseason with a bang. On Monday, they re-signed Erik Karlsson to an eight-year deal and Friday they announced their acquisition of a new yellow Labrador puppy named Finn for the upcoming season.

Finn measures one-foot, four-inches and weighs slightly more than a watermelon, eight pounds. He should be a great addition to the squad.

Finn is training to be an assistance dog through Canine Companions for Independence. CCI is a nonprofit that provides dogs to people with disabilities for no cost. They train dogs to become service dogs, hearing dogs, facility dogs, and skilled companions.

The Sharks will keep Finn for fourteen to eighteen months to provide basic training, socialization, and care.

Finn becomes the latest puppy in the NHL, joining the St. Louis Blues, Montreal Canadiens, New York Rangers, Ottawa Senators, and New York Islanders. The Blues’ Barclay won “Best Team Dog” from the NHL Fan Choice Awards.

Ahem….Capitals. Join the party and get a puppy. It would be welcomed with open arms.
