The Washington Capitals held their breakdown day at MedStar Capitals Iceplex on Friday, following their exit from the 2018-19 playoffs, which marked the official end of their season.
Several players were asked about whether they had been nursing any injuries during their first round matchup with the Carolina Hurricanes. Forward Jakub Vrana, who will be a restricted free agent this summer, confirmed that he had been struggling with an injury.

“I mean, I don’t know. I think I’m going to keep that for myself,” Vrana said, when initially questioned. When he was pressed further, he added: “Something, yes. I just don’t want to talk about it.”
Vrana also played a little coy on how serious the injury is. When asked if it was a major thing or something small, he just said, “Yeah, I could play.”
The Washington Post’s Isabelle Khurshudyan later tweeted that Vrana had been spotted throughout the playoffs with ice on his shoulder.
Vrana said he was nursing an injury but declined to say what it was. Added that he could play. (He was seen with a lot of ice on his shoulder during the playoffs)

With the injury, Vrana was also unsure on whether he’d travel to the World Championships to play with the Czech national team. “I haven’t discussed it yet,” he said. “I’ve got to talk to the national team first, talk to Washington, and see what’s going to happen.”
