Through sheer force of will, Alex Ovechkin has scored his 4th goal the playoffs restore Washington’s lead in the first period.
It was a perfect rush, with Oveckin waiting at the blue line for a pass from Dmitry Orlov. Once the puck was on his stick, Ovechkin cruised down along the faceoff dots, arcing towards the slot once a Carolina defender laid down. As Orlov crashed the net, Ovechkin fired a wristshot to beat goalie Petr Mrazek.
Hugs all around as PNC Arena got a bit more quiet.
That makes 65 career playoff goals for Ovechkin — just one more notch for the best goal scorer on the planet when it matters most.
