TJ Oshie had 21 points in 24 games, including eight goals, during the Capitals’ first Stanley Cup run last season.
Saturday, Oshie scored his first goal of the 2019 postseason – a nifty backhand finish on Petr Marzek.
The goal gave the Caps a 2-0 lead early in the first period.
After Matt Niskanen found Evgeny Kuznetsov at center ice, the Russian center slid the puck to Oshie and skated hard to the net with Carl Hagelin. With his teammates taking the eye of the lone Hurricanes defender, Oshie skated the puck to the net, kicked Justin Williams’ stick out of his hands, and scored on his backhand.
Here’s another look at Oshie kicking Williams’ stick. Oshie is apparently one of those guys who can walk, chew gum, and arrest a bank robber at the same time.
And the fist pump.
This isn’t the first time Oshie has used his legs to create offense. Oshie once played some hockey soccer to set up a Nicklas Backstrom goal in 2015.
Oshie scored 25 goals in the regular season. Here’s to the start of big things in this year’s loffs.
