No matter who the opponent is, Alex Ovechkin comes to play. And Saturday, during a huge matchup against the Lightning, the Russian machine continued his goalscoring prowess, notching his league-leading 47th goal of the season.
Friends, this is what we call a bullet.
Ovechkin’s goal came on a second period powerplay. After a John Carlson shot went off TJ Oshie’s backside, Ovi didn’t wait and fired the rebound past Lightning goaltender Andrei Vasilevskiy.
Why stickhandle when you can just do this?
Ovi also accomplished some more history in the process, tying Phil Esposito for fifth all-time in career powerplay goals with 246.
“We did a pretty good job here,” Ovechkin said at intermission of his goal. “Lots of opportunities before. It was a lucky bounce but we’ll take it.”
Ovechkin also had several glorious opportunities earlier in the game, including this scoring chance on Vasilevskiy.

Ovechkin and Peter Bondra own the most career goals against the Lightning franchise all-time.
