Capitals defensive prospect Alex Alexeyev left the Red Deer Rebels game Tuesday night after a dangerous hit into the boards. Kamloops Blazers center Zane Franklin went to the locker room after receiving a 5-minute major and a game misconduct for boarding, while Alexeyev went to the hospital.
NBCSW’s JJ Regan reports that Alexeyev “underwent an x-ray and a CAT scan, both of which were negative.” He could return as early as Friday night when the Rebels face off against the Medicine Hat Tigers but for the time being is considered day-to-day.
Franklin hit Alexeyev squarely from behind and Alexeyev went face-first into the boards.

Alexeyev was in an awkward position and was lucky to escape serious injury. “It could have been a lot worse,” said the Red Deer Rebels head coach and general manager Brent Sutter on Wednesday, in an article by Greg Meachen.
Sutter added that Alexeyev “felt not too bad riding the bike today and he may be good to go on Friday. We won’t know until tomorrow.”
Alexeyev will be heading to Vancouver for the World Junior Championship December 26-January 6 where he will be representing Russia. He’s been doing well in the WHL, racking up more than a point per game with seven goals and twenty-four assists, a total of thirty-one points in only twenty-nine games played.
