Earlier this week, several analysts, including Mike Milbury, argued that Alex Ovechkin is the greatest goal-scorer of all-time. It’s hard to argue otherwise. Ovechkin, at 33-years-old, leads the league in goals again. He’s scoring at a frantic pace despite pretty much everyone on the ice knowing where he’s going to shoot: from his office in the left circle.
Friday, Ovechkin did it again, burying a one-timer past Scott Darling from The Ovi Spot. Ovechkin added another scintillating goal in the second period. The Russian machine now has 27 goals on the season. He’s on pace to score a career-high 71 goals.
Is Ovi… getting better with age?
After Nic Dowd wins a board battle, the fourth-line center finds Jonas Siegenthaler with a slick backhanded pass. Siegenthaler skates towards the net as Ovechkin opens up on the left circle.
You know how this story ends.
Ovechkin beats Darling far side with a 🚀.
Ovechkin scores goal number two after Siegenthaler runs over a Carolina Hurricanes player in open ice. The hit probably should have resulted in an interference minor. Instead, Ovechkin took the puck to the net and ripped a wrist shot past Darling.
Ovechkin’s first-period goal gave him a 13-game point streak, which ties the longest point streak of his career set originally during the 2007 season. It’s the seventh longest in Caps history.
Alex Ovechkin extended his point streak to 13 games to equal a career high set in 2006-07.

It’s the second longest point streak in the NHL this season.
Here are some quick facts that are even more mind-blowing. Ovechkin has:
– Five goals on his last eight shots (through five periods)
– Goals in five-consecutive games (8)
– Goals in nine of his last 10
– 15 goals in his last 13 games
– 27 goals in 32 games this season
– 127 career multi-goal games
– 634 career goals
Most multi-goal games, NHL history:
Wayne Gretzky – 189
Brett Hull – 158
Mario Lemieux – 154
Gordie Howe – 147
Phil Esposito – 143
Marcel Dionne – 139
Mike Gartner – 135
Teemu Selanne – 131@ovi8 – 127

Line-mate Tom Wilson was asked about Oveckin’s greatness during the first intermission.
Tom Wilson on if Alex Ovechkin impresses him: "Every day. There's no player like him in the world and I don't think there ever was." pic.twitter.com/hoEyzqhhrk

I cannot agree with him more.
Update: Ovi scored again. He has back-to-back hat tricks.
