Voting is now open for the 2019 All-Star Game, and six Capitals are on the ballot. Once again the NHL is deciding the captains by a fan vote. Stanley Cup Champions Alex Ovechkin, Nicklas Backstrom, Braden Holtby, John Carlson, Evgeny Kuznetsov, and TJ Oshie all made the list.
Write-in votes are also available if you’re feeling cheeky.
The top vote-getter in each division will be named captain in the three-on-three tournament and skill competition.
Ovechkin has been an All-Star seven times. Holtby has made three straight appearances, while Backstrom and Kuznetsov made their only appearances in 2016. Oshie and Carlson have never been.
The Capitals have the second-highest number of players eligible. The hosting San Jose Sharks have seven, but they could’ve saved some room by just picking their obvious winner, Brent Burns.

The 2019 Honda NHL® All-Star Weekend will once again consist of a three-game tournament, played in a 3-on-3 format, featuring four teams – one for each NHL division. Fans can cast votes online at NHL.com/Vote and via the NHL App for one player from each division, without regard to position. Voting concludes at 11:59 p.m. ET on Sunday, Dec. 23, with the top vote-getters by division – regardless of position – named All-Stars and captains.
Fans are permitted to select as few as one player and a maximum of four players per ballot. The maximum number of ballots cast per 24-hour period for each fan is 10.

The event will be held in the San Jose McEnery Convention Center. The skills competition will be Friday, January 25 at 6 PM PT, and the All-Star three-on-three tournament starts on Saturday, January 26 at 5 PM PT. The Fan Fair starts on January 22 and goes through January 27.
The NHL.com staff writers put together their projection of the final rosters, but since they didn’t put all six Capitals on the Metro division, they’re definitely wrong.
