Jakub Vrana‘s day with the Stanley Cup in the Czech Republic honored a promise he made in July: a trip to Vrana’s grandmother’s grave.
Vrana’s grandmother, Jana Hejduková, passed during the season, and the Czech forward first opened up about it in an interview with iSport.CZ.
“There are a few places [I want to take the Cup],” the Capitals forward said. “For now, the hockey rink in Letňany and then I was thinking about many places. I’ll take it to a graveyard, my grandma died during the season and– there are a few places, I’ll see.”
The Capitals sent their video crew to cover the touching moment and released a behind-the-scenes video of Vrana’s day Saturday.

Vrana is joined by several members of his family at the graveyard. The Capitals forward places the Cup on the burial site, prays, and kisses his cross necklace and rubs it on the Stanley Cup.
What a touching moment.
The nearly four-minute video recaps all Vrana’s day. It starts with Vrana grabbing the Cup out of its protective case and kissing it.
His father follows suit.
The Stanley Cup makes its way back to downtown Praha, where his grandfather gets a chance to lift it.
A very good pupper is placed in the chalice.
Then Vrana arrives at a fan event where he signed autographs and some of his former teammates celebrated his Cup victory on stage.
This was followed by a trip to his hometown rink Letňany.
And to Prague’s astronomical clock which is under renovation.
Vrana closed the night out at One Club Prague, where the champagne was plentiful.
Andre Burakovsky made another guest appearance and would not let the Cup go.
