After the Washington Capitals won their first-ever Stanley Cup, fans rushed to get tattoos commemorating the event. Every since, the list of folks who have gotten Caps-themed tattoos has continued to rise.
Some were so good, they even got a “like” from Alex Ovechkin himself on Instagram.
First, you need to check out this incredible leg piece done by Damascus Tattoo Co’s Robby Latos on superfan Bobby Tran.

Bobby described his experience to us in his own words.
It wasn’t until after their 6-2 beat down of the Lightning in Game 2 of the Conference Finals (with a 2-0 series lead) that I told my friends, “If we win The Cup, I’ll be so damn happy for Ovi & this franchise…I’d get a frikkin’ tattoo to commemorate it!”. Realistically thinking we’ve had a pretty solid year given we’ve beat the Pens and were on our way to beating the Lightning.
During this time, I was booking my appointment with Robby Latos, of Damascus Tattoo Co., out in Damascus, MD. to work on the first part of my sleeve (different piece) & figured to also ask if he’d be open to doing an Ovi tattoo if they happen to win it all. Turns out Robby had played hockey growing up & was totally stoked to partake if it all came to fruition…& it did!
The final design was an idea Robby came up with (as you should ALWAYS TRUST your tattooist) after I told him it must incorporate The Cup (best trophy in pro sports IMO) and the huddle of players below honor that final home game goal in the SCF scored by Brett Connolly with his #1 fan, Keelan Moxley, invited to attend/witness. Her storyline was touching and the accomplishments of this incredible team will be cherished not just for myself but for so many of us fans (and the new fans it brought on board)!
Mr. Ovechkin has been a very popular subject overall for those getting new, more complicated Caps tattoos.

Ovi personally liked this arm piece by Justin Holcombe.

Ovechkin was also a personal fan of this tattoo featuring his signature, the Capitals weagle logo, and the Stanley Cup.
Other Ovi-inspired designs include these pieces.

This tattoo looks like Ovechkin drew it during his week long Stanley Cup victory bender.

He’s even been kewpie-fied a few times. So cute, and yet also slightly terrifying.
While some kept it simple with existing logo designs

A reminder to all our readers: Please note if you get a tattoo you can’t donate blood for a year. The tattoo site must be properly healed, so there is a one-year wait when you receive a tattoo in DC, GA, ID, MD, MA, NV, NH, NY, PA, UT and WY and outside of the United States. The only state not listed is Virginia. If you would like more information about your eligibility to donate blood after a tattoo, INOVA has a very helpful information page.
