The Washington Capitals lost an important player in their top six Sunday night early in Game Two.

Andre Burakovsky, who missed nearly two months of games during the regular season due to a fractured left thumb, was injured in the first period against the Blue Jackets.

With 5:15 remaining in the first period, Boone Jenner checked Burakovsky hard into the boards.

Burakovsky’s arm was slammed into the boards.

“As he tumbles into the corner here, he goes in — I’m not sure if it’s his right shoulder, his right elbow, his right hand — but as he went down there he kind of went in that way,” NBC Sports Washington’s Alan May said. “So I’m assuming it’s on that side of his body. A tough blow for the Caps.”

In the third period, the Capitals announced the Swedish forward would not return.

During his postgame press conference, Barry Trotz said Burakovsky would be re-evaluated Monday.

Burakovsky received five first period shifts, but only played two minutes and twelve seconds in the game total.
