Capitals center Evgeny Kuznetsov keeps being his weird self and it continues to become more and more endearing.
A night after contributing to Evgeni Malkin’s ejection for speaking Russian at him, Kuznetsov had an interesting response to being obstructed in the third period.
As Kuznetsov drove down the wing, Blues forward Tage Thompson slashed the Russian in the right hand.
Kuzy kicked back. A #KuzyKick if you will.
According to NBC Sports Washington analyst Craig Laughlin, Kuznetsov was using a new strategy.
“There he is lifting his leg. I think he had to stretch a little bit with his right leg,” Laughlin joked before turning serious. “We’ve seen that before, Joe. I mentioned it in another game. He sort of uses that to shield a defender’s stick. It’s not what you’re thinking.”
“One: thank goodness there’s not a fire hydrant around,” Joe Beninati responded. “Two: it’s gotta be a dangerous play. You can’t do that with your skate.”
“You can do that!” Laughlin replied.
“You can?” Beninati said.
“He’s done it before, Joe. I’ve seen it before,” Laughlin responded.
Or perhaps, like the NBC Sports Washington’s Twitter account suggested, a ghost appeared that he had to swat.
