Earlier in the week, Jonas Siegenthaler made headlines, but not for something that happened during game action. Against the Montreal Canadiens, the young Swiss defense prospect jumped on the wrong bench to start the second period, and was relentlessly teased by his teammates after the game.
The mocking continued Saturday night at Capital One Arena.
One brilliant Caps fan, Amy Rothenberger, created a sign for Jonas at the Caps bench. It read, with five sassy down arrows, “JONAS SIT HERE.”
Caps PA announcer Wes Johnson was the first to notice the sign on Twitter.

In messages Saturday night, Amy told me that several players loved her art.
“I can report that Grubi definitely noticed the sign, gave it a chuckle, and pointed it out to the new trainer who laughed too,” Amy said. “I think Jonas himself caught it on his way off the ice as I got a vague smirk in my direction.
Amy came up with the idea earlier in the week and was happy when Jonas earned a sweater from Barry Trotz at the same game she went to.
“I just thought it would be funny,” Amy said. “And lots of my friends thought so too. One could say I fell into peer pressure, but I am 45 years old so…”
It may be the preseason, but Caps fans’ signs are already in midseason form.
