Capitals goaltending prospect Ilya Samsonov bade farewell to the United States today after finishing up a combination summer vacation and training stint. As RMNB’s Ian Oland reported earlier, Samsonov was undergoing training and rehab at Michigan-based 2SP Sports following inguinal hernia surgery in late April.
“All set!” Samsonov says in the posting. “Thanks for the work! We’re going home.”
Standing with Samsonov is Magnitogorsk’s goalie coach Sergei Zvyagin, who lives in the Detroit area during the off-season. They are joined by Phillip Kurashev (black jersey) of the Quebec Remparts, and an as-yet unidentified goaltender.
With Samsonov in this photo are Zyagin, Russian Hockey Legend and Hockey Hall of Famer Igor Larionov, (in glasses) who is also Samsonov’s agent, his son Igor Larionov Jr., who also plays for the Remparts, and American prospect Peter Lychnikoff (bottom left), among others.
