Friday night during the NHL Draft, the player who arguably got the most attention online wasn’t one of the players drafted in the first round. It was for what one of the players drafted in the first round did to him.
With the fourth overall pick, the Colorado Avalanche selected Brooks Bandits’ defenseman Cale Makar out of the Alberta Junior Hockey League, arguably the best player in the draft.
As NBCSN aired a highlight package focusing on the defender’s slick puck control, Makar doled out counter hit and crushed a fellow AJHL player behind the net.
We learned that fellow player was actually Jack Thomas and he has feelings too.
Let’s zoom in and enhance this.
Yeah, that is definitely embarrassing.
Sportsnet and former RMNB contributor Dimitri Filipovic published a tweet calling the kid behind the net the “biggest loser of the draft.”
The biggest loser of the draft so far is that poor kid that Cale Makar absolutely destroyed behind the net in that highlight pack

The junior player could have remained anonymous, but he decided to out himself. And in a beautiful moment, Thomas sent a response back to Filipovic with just one sassy word: Thanks.
Thanks https://t.co/rtC1BQL3ES

Thomas is a defenseman who at the time was playing with the AJHL’s Camrose Kodiaks. He will be attending St. Norbert College next year and will be bringing a whole new level of fame with him.
