On Wednesday, a lone gunman opened fired at Republican congressional members at an Alexandria, Virginia, baseball field. Four people were injured during the assault, including GOP WHIP Steve Scalise, who still remains in the hospital and is in serious condition. The representatives were practicing for the Congressional Baseball Game.
The shooting could have been a massacre without the heroism of Capitol Police officers David Bailey and Crystal Griner. The two officers fired back at the gunman, protecting the rest of the team.
Thursday night, in an emotional and powerful moment at Nationals Park, Officer Bailey, on crutches, made his way out to the mound and threw out the first pitch of the charity game. He received a loud standing ovation from the crowd.
