Monday morning, depth forward Paul Carey was re-assigned to the Hershey Bears, suggesting that Lars Eller is near a full recovery.
Eller, who sustained an undisclosed upper-body injury during Friday night’s game against the Red Wings, has not participated in a Caps practice since. The third line center took the ice during the Caps’ family skate Saturday. On Monday, Eller skated before the rest of the team had practice, Caps’ Head Coach Barry Trotz was optimistic.
Where Eller likely suffered his injury.
“He’s probably day-to-day,” Trotz said to the media. “I don’t know if he’ll skate with us tomorrow or not. I’ll probably have a better idea in the morning. He skated on his own and he’s feeling much better.”
Trotz was asked if Eller was probable to play Wednesday night against the St. Louis Blues.
“That’ll be a great question tomorrow at the same time,” Trotz responded.
With nearly three days between games, the Caps can afford to be patient. If Eller is still sore tomorrow, the Caps could recall Carey again–or another Bears player. Hershey however has games on the same days the Caps play: Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday.
With the Capitals down a forward during practice, Nate Schmidt threw on a red jersey and filled in as a winger on the first line.
