The Washington Capitals arrived in Philadelphia on Saturday ahead of their Sunday matinee with the Flyers. As of 11:30 PM, things in the team’s hotel were going fine.

Here’s a peek into Alex Ovechkin‘s room, where we find Evgeny Kuznetsov jamming out in Russian.

Kuznetsov sings the lyrics (as translated by Fedor Fedin), “listen, why are you so brazen?”

Then around 1:30 AM, someone pulled the fire alarm, sending the Caps into the hotel hallway. Marcus Johansson and Ovechkin both documented it on Instagram.

That had to suck, and while I’m suspicious, I’m more interested in why the Caps players are barely clothed. Does the entire team sleep shirtless? I’ve never done this once in my adult life. I count six guys in the frame, four without shirts. Ovechkin and Kuznetsov appear to have wrapped bath towels around their legs.

Johansson wrote on Instagram, “Well, this was just great!!” He included a sarcastic thumbs icon up along with some laughing/crying face emojis. Ovechkin wrote “Nice 1.35 am!!!!!”

That is an accurate number of exclamation points.

Before Sunday’s game, head coach Barry Trotz spoke to CSN’s Chuck Gormley. Jokingly, Trotz blamed Flyers fans for the gamesmanship.

“Flyers fans, they love their hockey, a passionate group,” Trotz said before the game. “You gotta love that about the hockey frenzy in Philadelphia.”

Could this be the reason for the Caps’ slow start to their second straight 12:30 PM start this weekend? Gormley notes it took the Caps nine minutes into the first period to record their first shot.

Maybe that’s it. At least now I know that hockey players are a different breed of human and they aren’t afraid to let anyone know about it.
